Apart from Mirage 2000-5 from Qatar, Jakarta Will Also Buy Mirage 2000-9 from UAE

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said the government is currently negotiating with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to buy Mirage 2000-9 fighter jets.

This purchase, said Prabowo, aims to fill the void in Indonesia's aging fighter aircraft.

"We are also negotiating with Emirates, they also have Mirage 2000-9. We are also negotiating this again, hopefully we can acquire this to maintain it now for up to five years until our new planes are fully in our possession," said Prabowo in Bandung, Friday, June 16, 2023, as quoted by Viva.

Meanwhile, broadcast on Garuda TV's YouTube channel also explained that Jakarta would buy 24 Mirage 2000 units, consisting of 12 Mirage 2000-5 from Qatar and 12 Mirage 2000-9 from the United Arab Emirates.

The purchase of a used Mirage 2000-5 aircraft gave rise to various opinions from netizens, some pro but also cons.

The pros say this is an attempt by the Ministry of Defense to increase the TNI AU's arsenal.

However, the cons say that purchasing an increasingly diverse range of aircraft will make it difficult for the Indonesian Air Force to maintain its planes.
